Questions about steel doors, lead times, glass, finishes and installation

If you are planning a renovation, extension or new interior layout, these are some of the most common questions we are asked. If you cannot find what you need, please get in touch and our team will be happy to help.

What does HA Steel Doors specialise in?

We specialise in bespoke internal steel doors, steel partitions, pivot doors, sliding doors, French doors and selected fire rated systems. Every design is made to suit the project rather than taken from a standard off-the-shelf size.

Do you supply across the UK?

Yes. We supply projects across the UK. We are based in Huddersfield and have a showroom there, but we regularly work with clients much further afield.

Do you install as well as manufacture?

Yes. We can provide a full service from initial enquiry and design guidance through to manufacture and installation.

Are your steel doors made to measure?

Yes. Our steel doors and partitions are made bespoke to suit the exact dimensions and layout of each opening. This allows the proportions and sightlines to feel correct within the space.

What types of internal steel doors do you offer?

We offer internal pivot doors, steel French doors, steel sliding doors, steel partitions, single steel doors and other bespoke configurations depending on the design and opening.

Do you offer fire rated steel doors?

Yes, fire rated options are available for suitable projects. If fire performance is required, let us know at the enquiry stage so we can guide you on the most appropriate specification.

Can I choose the colour of the frame?

Yes. We offer a wide range of finishes and colours. Black remains a popular choice, but we also work with warmer tones such as bronze and other bespoke finishes depending on the design brief.

What glass options are available?

We offer a range of glazing options including clear glass, frosted glass, fluted or reeded glass, and other privacy-led options depending on the design and application.

What is fluted glass?

Fluted glass, sometimes called reeded glass, has a vertical ribbed texture. It allows light to travel through the space while softening visibility and adding architectural interest.

Can steel doors help divide open plan spaces without losing light?

Yes. One of the main reasons clients choose internal steel doors and partitions is to define spaces more clearly while still allowing natural light to flow from room to room.

Are steel partitions a good choice for home offices?

Yes. Steel partitions are ideal for creating home offices, snug rooms or quiet zones within open plan homes. They introduce separation while still keeping the overall space feeling connected.

What is the difference between pivot doors and hinged doors?

Pivot doors rotate on a pivot point rather than a traditional side hinge line. This creates a more architectural opening style and can work particularly well in contemporary interiors where proportion and movement are important.

Do you offer sliding steel doors?

Yes. Sliding steel doors are available and can be a very effective option where space saving is important or where you want a clean, minimal transition between rooms.

Do you offer pocket doors?

For suitable layouts, pocket door configurations may be possible. The best approach is to discuss the opening and wall construction with us early in the project.

Can I have a steel door with a fixed screen or over-panel?

Yes. Many projects include fixed side panels, top screens or full partition arrangements to create a balanced architectural look and maximise light.

Do you only work on black steel doors?

No. Black is popular, but we also produce steel doors in a range of finishes. Bronze and other design-led tones can work beautifully depending on the interior palette.

How much do internal steel doors cost?

Cost depends on the size, configuration, glazing, finish, hardware and whether installation is included. Because we manufacture directly, our quotes are often more competitive than many retail suppliers for the same luxury look.

Can you give a quote from rough measurements?

Yes. Rough sizes are absolutely fine at the initial stage. They help us provide a guide price and discuss the most suitable options. Final measurements are confirmed later.

What should I send when requesting a quote?

The most helpful things are rough width and height, a photo of the opening, and any inspiration images or sketches. If you already have plans, those are useful too.

Do I need exact dimensions before contacting you?

No. In the early stages, rough dimensions are enough. If the project moves forward, exact measurements are confirmed before manufacture.

How long are your lead times?

Lead times vary depending on the design and specification, but we are known for offering strong lead times compared with many suppliers. We can advise current timings when quoting.

Can you work with architects, designers and developers?

Yes. We regularly work with homeowners, interior designers, architects and developers, helping translate the design intent into practical, well-proportioned steel door solutions.

Do your doors suit both modern and more traditional interiors?

Yes. Depending on the bar layout, finish and glazing, steel doors can work beautifully in contemporary spaces as well as more classic interiors.

Can I see the doors before I buy?

Yes. You are very welcome to visit our showroom in Huddersfield, where you can compare configurations, finishes and glazing options in person.

Do I need to book a showroom visit?

We recommend booking ahead so we can make sure someone is available to talk through your project in detail and show you the most relevant options.

What should I bring to the showroom?

If possible, bring rough measurements, plans, photos of the opening and any inspiration images. This helps us have a much more useful conversation about the project.

Can steel doors improve privacy?

Yes. Glass selection makes a big difference. Clear glass keeps rooms visually open, while fluted, frosted or other privacy glazing options help obscure visibility without losing light.

Do steel doors help with acoustics?

They can help create more acoustic separation than a fully open plan arrangement, particularly when used to divide workspaces, snug rooms or quieter areas of the home.

Can I use steel doors in hallways and narrower openings?

Yes. Bespoke manufacturing means we can work around different opening sizes and proportions, including narrower or taller spaces where standard sizes would not feel right.

Are steel doors worth it?

For many clients, yes. They add structure, light flow and architectural detail in a way few other interior elements can. They are both practical and visually transformative.

Do you offer advice if I am not sure which style is right?

Yes. That is a normal part of the process. We can help you compare pivot doors, French doors, sliding systems and partitions, and guide you towards the option that best suits your space.

How quickly do you respond to quote requests?

We aim to respond to most enquiries within 24 hours, depending on the level of detail provided and current workload.
